Using Gleams to Select Environmental Windows for Herbicide Application in Forests’
نویسندگان
چکیده
Observed herbicide runoff and groundwater data from a pine-release herbicide application study near Gainesville, Florida were used to validate the GLEAMS model hydrology and pesticide component for forest application. The study revealed that model simulations agreed relatively well with the field data for the one-year study. Following validation, a modified version of GLEAMS was applied using a 50.year climatic record to determine the periods (windows) for least water quality degradation within the Forest Service’s recommended application window for best vegetation control. The pesticide component of GLEAMS was modified to simulate up to 245 pesticides simultaneously. Four herbicides commonly used in the region Lo conrroi competing vegetation were represented in the model study. Within the application windows for each herbicide, the best application dates, or “environmental” windows were determined to minimize environmental effecfects for each location. Results of the simulation study are tabulated in the paper for use in the forest industry.

Using a Hydrological Model to Determine Environmentally Safer Windows for Herbicide Application
A modification of the GLEAMS model was used to determine application windows which would optimise efficacy and environmental safety for herbicide application to a forest site. Herbicide/soil partition coefticients were determined using soil samples collected from the study site for two herbicides (imazapyr, K,=46, triclopyr ester, K,,=l038)andpublishedvaluesfortwootherherbicides(henarinone,K,=5...
متن کاملChlorophyll Fluorescence: A Novel Method to Screen for Herbicide Resistance
The susceptibility to Terbacil of six randomly selected strawberry cultivars (‘Aromas’, ‘Chambly’, ‘Harmonie’, ‘Kent’, ‘La Clé des Champs’ and ‘Seascape’) was analysed using chlorophyll florescence (CF) in comparison with visual observation, in an attempt to develop a method for use in a breeding programme to select herbicide-resistant strawberry lines. Terbacil was applied at one of five rates...

Environmental risks resulting from increasing application of herbicides have raised many concerns about human health and safety of agro ecosystems and environment. Hence, it is very important to find practical and effective methods for reducing the use of pesticides in environment as well as the increasing the efficiency of these compounds. Addition of adjuvants to spray solutions could be cons...

متن کاملA review of available pesticide leaching models: Selection of models for simulation of herbicide fate in Finnish sugar beet cultivation
The quality of simulation results depends on the model structure and its parameterisation. The aim of this study was to fi nd the best available models for herbicide fate simulation for Finnish conditions. Subjective model selection criteria were developed for the simulation domain: pesticide fate in Finnish sugar beet cultivation. An inventory was made of available models and a number of diffe...
